“Staying safe in Aggression Cases” mit Mike Shikashio (USA)

Dog bites can have serious consequences, especially when under the supervision of a dog trainer. Before dealing with an aggression case, it is important to ensure the safety of everyone involved by designing the environment using best practices. Mastering the necessary defensive handling techniques is also critical to mitigating catastrophic consequences. Michael will discuss possible consequences that can occur when dogs bite and safety considerations that need to be taken before we handle an aggression case. Michael will teach us a variety of defensive handling skills that we can use in an emergency.

This workshop is all about leash management skills, strategies and equipment we need to incorporate to ensure safety for ourselves, other people and other animals when working with dogs that have a history of aggression. In addition, this day is also about the dreaded “SEC (Sudden Environmental Contrasts)!” We have all experienced this: Suddenly a provocative stimulus appears in the environment and the dog we are dealing with explodes with barking , growling and lunging! In this presentation, Michael will highlight proactive management techniques as well as remedial measures to set the stage for success in contexts where SECs are likely to occur. Michael will demonstrate various handling skills that can help dogs and their handlers in particularly challenging situations!
